AGE 60 I MORGANTON, NORTH CAROLINA I UNITED STATES
About the Cliburn Amateur, of which he was a finalist in 2016, Gregory Knight says: “I am reminded of the old cliché about mountain climbers: they climb the mountain because it’s there. In a sense, I suppose, that’s why I’m drawn to the Cliburn: for me and my abilities, it is a mountain I must try to climb.” Gregory studied with Dr. Thelma Rast at Lenoir-Rhyne University in his hometown of Hickory, North Carolina, from the time he was 11 through the successful completion of a B.A. in piano performance in 1983. He went on to build a career in software engineering, currently working as vice president of development for RMB Solutions and also as an author writing for pluralsight.com, a popular online education site. His love for piano has led him to join the amateur pianist community, a journey that has included performances across his home state, as well as Germany.
