BUDDY BRAY
Buddy Bray is co-author of the Cliburn in the Classroom programs and has been hosting the presentations in schools for over 17 years, and he says it is the most enjoyable work he does.
When he is not in the schools talking about music, Buddy serves as artistic director of the Cliburn at the Modern series and is the principal keyboardist for the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. He also hosts the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra’s pre-concert discussion series, where he does much the same thing as in the schools—he tries to make his audience comfortable with the music they will hear, and he does it with a spirit of discovery and fun.
Buddy comes from a family of teachers, and he is glad to be carrying on the family tradition.
CARA OWENS
Cara Owens has been Assistant Principal/2nd Bassoon with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra since 1997. A native of Pennsylvania, Cara studied at Indiana University and the University of Michigan.
Outside the FWSO, Cara is an advocate for musical outreach, creating and organizing educational programs for all ages. She also works for Texas Winds Musical Outreach—a North Texas non-profit that sends professional musicians to perform in senior communities, hospitals, and for children in the Head Start program—and serves on the board for the Spectrum Chamber Music Society.
When she’s not performing or teaching, Cara is an avid tennis player and also enjoys reading and cooking. Currently, she lives in Colleyville with her husband, Nate, and has two daughters in college, one studying at the University of Alabama, and the other at The Ohio State University.
