About
“I love the music in me, not me in the music, and my relationship with it never allows me to give in to formality, carelessness, or meaninglessness. I would deem it fitting to quote the core pedagogical principle of the Neuhaus family: ‘first, a person, second, an artist, third, a musician, and only fourth, a pianist,’ which I believe can be transferred beautifully onto the code of every aspiring pianist out there.”
Growing up in Kyiv, Roman Fediurko’s musical path began with “a child’s fascination and interest piqued by the concept of the piano—from a toy keyboard at a children's party to the beautifully engraved old pianos in dance classes.” He began lessons with Galina Kotsyuba when he was 5, remaining under her tutelage for the next 12 years. He credits her as the influence “who cultivated the love of music in me, who taught me the better half of what I know and believe in, who instilled the right values and largely made me the person I am today.” The baton of his continued development as a musician—his professional growth, artistic refinement, and initiation into the highest level of pianistic mastery—was then passed on to Milana Chernyavska, with whom he has been studying at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria, since 2021.
A scholar of the International Academy of Music in Liechtenstein, Roman’s career has been marked by a string of first-place wins in international competitions, including the Vladimir Horowitz International Piano Competition (Geneva), Bösendorfer USASU (Tempe), and Robert Schumann (Düsseldorf). In 2023, he was joined by his then-13-year-old brother, Oleksandr, to record a mutual album titled Kaleidoscope (ARS Produktion), featuring both solo and piano duo works. He plans to next record the piano works of Schumann.
Recent performance highlights include appearances at the Salle Cortot (Paris), Beethoven-Haus Bonn, Konzerthaus Wien, DMZ Open Festival, and a 2025 tour of Germany for Steinway Prizewinner Concerts that included his debut at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. His performances have also brought him throughout France, Italy, Austria, Liechtenstein, Sweden, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Portugal, Romania, and South Korea.
