About
“Music has always inspired me. It was already clear to me when I was little that I would become a pianist. I can't do anything else, but I don't want to either.”
Mikhail Kambarov says his “journey began very classically.” His mother taught him the basics of piano before he began formal lessons with Natalya Fish at the age of 5; he continued to study with her at the Music College named after Balakirev for 11 years. He made his concerto debut when he was just 8, playing with the Philharmonic Orchestra in his hometown of Nizhny Novgorod. His great role model was his aunt, a pianist who moved to Germany at the age of 18. And he followed directly in her footsteps, going to Germany when he was 16 to attend the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar, where he studied first with Christian Wilm Müller and now Michail Lifits.
Mikhail has earned first prizes at international competitions in Estonia, Switzerland, Germany, France, and Italy, including the Alexander Scriabin in 2022. Solo concerts have taken him across Europe and to Washington, D.C., where he performed at the German Embassy. He is also a passionate and experienced chamber musician and lied pianist. He has won numerous prizes with the Trio Fulminato, including first prize at the Jugend musiziert; their successes led to a tour of the United States with concerts in Boston, Nelson (New York), and Washington, D.C. They’ve also been broadcast on MDR Kultur and WDR 3. His aspirations include breaking out of the mold of the standard concert framework to create bold and unique audience experiences, in addition to utilizing current technologies to further the reach of music. Outside of piano, Mikhail enjoys football, chess, and perfumery.
