About
Born in California but growing up in Malaysia, Magdalene Ho started piano lesson at age 4; though neither of her parents played, they loved music deeply, and her father wanted her to learn. Five years later—at the age of 9—she moved to the United Kingdom on a full scholarship to the Purcell School, where she studied from 2013 to 2022 with Patsy Toh, who she calls her great inspiration and role model. Magdalene is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree at the Royal College of Music with Dmitri Alexeev, also on a full scholarship.
In 2023, Magdalene garnered international recognition with a first-prize win at the Clara Haskil Competition in Switzerland, also taking home three special awards. In 2023 and 2024, she won a pair of RCM competition, the latter of which landed her on radar of International Piano magazine, who named her “One to Watch;” this was followed by becoming the first female winner of the International German Piano Award in November. In recent years, she has played with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, SWR Symphonieorchester, Lithuanian Symphony Orchestra, and Accademia della Scala Orchestra. She performs chamber music with cellists Daniel Müller-Schott and Marc Coppey, pianist Simon Trpčeski, and others, and has appeared in concerts throughout Europe.
