FEATURED ARTISTS
BUDDY BRAY
Buddy Bray is co-author of the Cliburn in the Classroom programs and has been hosting the presentations in schools for over 17 years, and he says it is the most enjoyable work he does.
When he is not in the schools talking about music, Buddy serves as artistic director of the Cliburn at the Modern series and is the principal keyboardist for the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. He also hosts the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra’s pre-concert discussion series, where he does much the same thing as in the schools—he tries to make his audience comfortable with the music they will hear, and he does it with a spirit of discovery and fun.
Buddy comes from a family of teachers, and he is glad to be carrying on the family tradition.
EVAN MITCHELL
Pianist Evan Mitchell has given over 250 performances for the Cliburn’s education programs over the past eight years, in addition to teaching privately and at Tarrant County College and serving as a chamber music coach for the Fort Worth Youth Orchestra. He also maintains an active performance career, having appeared in ten countries on four continents, including with the Dallas and Fort Worth Symphony Orchestras, the Fort Worth Opera, and Texas Winds.
A passionate advocate for the arts, Evan looks constantly for ways to reach new audiences and to inspire a love for music. He holds degrees from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and TCU, and has won first prize at several competitions.
NATSUKO EJIRI
Born in São Paulo, Brazil, pianist Natsuko Ejiri moved to Japan when she was 2½ and began lessons at the Yamaha Music School at only age 4. After taking a break from music to study nursing, she moved to the United States, where she has performed extensively while keeping an active private teaching studio. In addition to performances under renowned conductors Michael Tilson Thomas and Esa-Pekka Salonen, she has made numerous appearances with the New World Symphony in Miami and served as staff pianist for several universities and artist teachers.
Now the principal keyboardist of the Abilene Philharmonic, Natsuko is a graduate of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and California State University Northridge.
