ABOUT CHARLES YANG, violin

Charles Yang, recipient of the 2018 Leonard Bernstein Award, has been described by The Boston Globe as an artist who “plays classical violin with the charisma of a rock star.” He is the newest member of the genre-defying trio, Time for Three.

While rooted in the world of classical music, he is hardly confined to it, possessing  improvisational crossover abilities as a violinist, electric violinist, and vocalist, which have led him to perform with a variety of artists at many festivals, including Aspen, Schleswig-Holstein, Ravinia, Crested Butte, Cayman Arts, Moab, Caramoor, and Interlochen. He’s also appeared at the YouTube Music Awards, TED, EG Conference, Google Zeitgeist, and onstage at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center’s Metropolitan Opera House, David H. Koch Theater, Dizzy’s, and the David Rubenstein Atrium. Other engagements include the Long Center, Rudolfinum, Royal Danish Theatre, Le Poisson Rouge, Highline Ballroom, Ars Nova, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Forbidden City in Beijing, among many others.

Yang has performed in the presence of two former U.S. Presidents and the Queen of Denmark, and has shared the stage in collaborations with artists including Peter Dugan, CDZA, Steve Miller, Jesse Colin Young, Jake Shimabukuro, Ray Benson, Michael Gordon, Marcelo Gomes, Savion Glover, Twyla Tharp, Misty Copeland, and Jon Batiste. Mr. Yang recently made his solo debut with Marin Alsop and the Chicago Symphony at the Ravinia Festival. His career has been followed by various news media, including The New York Times, New York Post, Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, Boston Globe, Financial Times, Austin American-Statesman, Austin Chronicle, and The Strad. Mr. Yang is featured in Nick Romeo’s book Driven and on the Discovery Channel’s Curiosity.

On June 9, 2005, the Mayor of Austin presented Mr. Yang with his own “Charles Yang Day.”

ABOUT PETER DUGAN, piano

Pianist Peter Dugan’s debut performances with Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony were described by the Los Angeles Times as “stunning” and by the SF Chronicle as “fearlessly athletic.” He is heard nationwide as the host of NPR’s beloved program From the Top. He has appeared as a soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician across North America and abroad. This year he makes his debuts at Wigmore Hall and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and can be heard as the piano soloist on a new release of Ives’ Fourth Symphony from Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony, a recording which The New York Times named one of the top classical albums of 2019 . Prizing versatility as the key to the future of classical music, Mr. Dugan is equally at home in classical, jazz, and pop idioms.

A sought-after multi-genre artist, Mr. Dugan has performed in duos and trios with artists ranging from Itzhak Perlman and Renée Fleming to Jesse Colin Young and Glenn Close. The Wall Street Journal described Mr. Dugan’s collaboration with violinist Charles Yang as a “classical-meets-rockstar duo.” Mr. Dugan has been presented in chamber music recitals by Carnegie Hall, Chamber Music Society of Palm Beach, Music at Menlo, Moab Music Festival, and recently in recital with Joshua Bell at the Minnesota Beethoven Festival. He was the 2019 featured recitalist for the California Association of Professional Music Teachers, and has soloed with the San Francisco Symphony, Houston Symphony, Kansas City Symphony, New World Symphony, and Mid-Texas Symphony.

Mr. Dugan advocates the importance of music in the community and at all levels of society. As a founding creator of Operation Superpower, a superhero opera for children, he has travelled to dozens of schools in the greater New York area, performing for students and encouraging them to use their talents – their superpowers – for good.

Mr. Dugan holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from The Juilliard School, where he studied under Matti Raekallio. He resides in New York City with his wife, mezzo-soprano Kara Dugan, and serves on the piano faculty at The Juilliard School Evening Division. Mr. Dugan is a Yamaha Artist.

Defying convention and boundaries, Time For Three stands at the busy intersection of Americana, modern pop, and classical music. To experience Time For Three (TF3) live is to hear the various eras, styles, and traditions of Western music fold in on themselves and emerge anew.

Earning praise from NPR, NBC, The Wall Street Journal, Time for Three is renowned for their charismatic and energetic performances in venues including Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, and The Royal Albert Hall. They have collaborated with artists as diverse as Ben Folds, Branford Marsalis, and Joshua Bell, and have premiered original works by composers Chris Brubeck and Pulitzer Prize-winners Jennifer Higdon and William Bolcom. In 2020, the band partnered with cellist and composer Ben Sollee to put together the soundtrack to the new Focus Features’ film Land, starring and directed by Robin Wright. The film first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 31, 2021.

ABOUT RANDALL GOOSBY

Violinist Randall Mitsuo Goosby has appeared as guest soloist with numerous orchestras throughout the United States since winning First Prize at the Annual Sphinx Concerto Competition in 2010 at age 13. Shortly after winning, Randall was invited to appear as part of the New York Philharmonic’s prestigious Young People’s Concert series at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center. The New York Times raved that he “exerted a masterly level of control and lavished an exquisite tone…his performance won him a deserved standing ovation for its sheer virtuosity” in his Carnegie Hall debut performance of Ysaye Solo Sonata No. 3.

Randall received a full scholarship to The Juilliard School’s Pre-College program and has earned his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music from Juilliard under the tutelage of violinists Itzhak Perlman, Catherine Cho, Laurie Smukler, and Donald Weilerstein. He is now pursuing an Artist Diploma at Juilliard. Randall has been featured on National Public Radio’s “From the Top,” and he has been honored as a Rising Star of the Stradivari Society. ABOUT MAKE TRIO

MAKE—violinist Grace Kang Wollett, clarinetist Danny Goldman, and pianist Mikhail Berestnev—presents versatile performances and content that is engaging to audiences around the world. The trio made its formal debut at the 2019 Basically Beethoven Festival with a recital entitled “The American Sound,” in which the Dallas Morning News said “the ensemble’s style fit the character of the music like a tailored suit.” Other recent reviews describe the trio as having “an incredibly rich sound” (Cry Havoc Theater) and as “mind blowing to hear such transcendental difficulties played with a combination of technical mastery and keen musical insight” (Theater Jones).

It created a performance concept called “The Classical Lounge” to bring audiences closer to the music. To further this vision, MAKE has partnered with SamsungVR (Virtual Reality) to produce three-Dimensional, 360-degree classical music concerts for the public; these videos have now been viewed in over 40 countries. It started a channel of professional music videos and documentary style film shoots about being a musician and working in a classical chamber ensemble.

Recent collaborations include work with Avant Chamber Ballet, Ballet North Texas, and Bruce Wood Dance at Annette Strauss Square, and live shows in Moody Performance Hall, Winspear Opera House’s Hamon Hall, and The Tin Star Theater.
