FORT WORTH, Texas, May 31, 2022

The Sixteenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition welcomed 30 young pianists from around the world to the Opening Dinner & Draw Party Tuesday evening, May 31, 2022, at the Historic Hilton Hotel in downtown Fort Worth.

The competitors, members of the Jury, and host families received warm welcomes from Cliburn staff and patrons, and past Cliburn Board Chairman Susan Bagby Tilley was honored with a tribute delivered by Jury Chairman Emeritus John Giordano. Other speakers included Cliburn President and CEO Jacques Marquis, Chairman of the Board Jeffrey B. King, and 2017 Gold Medalist Yekwon Sunwoo.

After dinner, Yekwon Sunwoo drew competitor names out of a chalice, Jacques Marquis read out the names, and each pianist came forward to choose his or her order of play.
