Van Cliburn Foundation introduces new logo to promote mission, enhance brand

FORT WORTH, TEXAS, OCTOBER 6, 2008 -- The Van Cliburn Foundation has announced a new logo as it embarks on a historic four-year span of celebrating golden anniversaries, beginning with the commemoration of Van Cliburn's win at the Tchaikovsky Competition in 1958 and culminating in 2012 with the 50th anniversary of the Foundation's first competition.

The Cliburn will begin utilizing the new logo, designed by marketing and PR firm TracyLocke of Dallas, effective immediately.

While the new logo--a stylized piano in a solid circle--boasts a contemporary design, it draws inspiration from the Foundation's original logo, designed by Cliburn board member Sam Cantey at the organization's inception in 1961. Mr. Cantey's piano paid homage to the first piano brought to Fort Worth in 1850.

The new design is sleek, minimalist, and in keeping with today's aesthetics. In most instances, the piano icon will appear alongside "The Cliburn," rather than "Van Cliburn Foundation," to reaffirm the organization's more common moniker. This approach will help establish immediate recognition, and solidify the Cliburn brand both locally and around the world.

"The new, distinctive icon ushers the Foundation into the 21st century with a sense of timeless elegance. Coupled with the broadly recognized name 'The Cliburn,' the piano symbol serves as an essential visual component, ensuring that the Cliburn brand remains constant across all platforms and for all types of media," remarked Richard Rodzinski, president of the Van Cliburn Foundation.

Chairman of the board, Alann Sampson, reflected, "The Cliburn's 50th anniversary is a time of celebrating our traditions and securing a forum for the next generations and the classics of the centuries. This new logo provides continuity of the Cliburn name and piano and projects a look to the future, reflecting standards of excellence and vision. On behalf of the Cliburn board and staff, I would like to express our deep appreciation to TracyLocke for capturing the essence of our organization."

The Cliburn's sentiments were echoed by Greg Chapman and Maeve Rogers of TracyLocke: "We created an icon that both acknowledges the purpose of the Van Cliburn Foundation and subtly identifies its roots. The graphic is simple yet dramatic, and its classic look will bring the Foundation through its next fifty years."
