Cliburn at the Kimbell debuts acclaimed Argentinean pianist Ingrid Fliter

FORT WORTH, TEXAS, April 5, 2008--World-renowned pianist Ingrid Fliter will perform in recital on the Cliburn at the Kimbell series Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at 7:30 p.m. She will perform a program of works by Schubert, Beethoven, and Chopin.

A protégé of fellow Argentinean pianist Martha Argerich, Ingrid Fliter has received international acclaim for her musicality, sensitivity, and elegance in performances around the world. After making her orchestral debut with the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires at the age of sixteen, Ms. Fliter went on to win top prizes at the Busoni and Chopin International Piano Competitions. In 2006, she became only the fifth pianist ever to receive the prestigious Gilmore Award.

Ms. Fliter is known for her appearances on the international circuit, having performed at such important venues as the Suntory Hall in Tokyo, the Alte Oper in Frankfurt, the Philharmonia in St. Petersburg, and the Grosses Festspiele- Haus in Salzburg, to name a few. She continues to make orchestral debuts worldwide, which include appearances with the Hungarian National Harmonic, Giuseppe Verdi Orchestra of Milan, and the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Buenos Aires.

Ingrid Fliter
Born in Buenos Aires in 1973, Ingrid Fliter began playing public recitals at the age of eleven and made her professional orchestral debut at the age of sixteen. In 1992, she moved to Europe to continue her studies at the suggestion of Martha Argerich. Already the winner of several Argentine competitions, she went on to win first prize at both the Cantù International Competition and the Ferruccio Busoni Competition in Italy, and in 2000 was awarded the silver medal at the Frédéric Chopin Competition in Warsaw. In January 2006, she received the Gilmore Artist Award; she is only the fifth pianist to have been so honored.

Ingrid Fliter has performed with orchestras and in recital at many of the major concert halls worldwide, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, the Philharmonia in St. Petersburg, Alte Oper in Frankfurt, Grosses Festspielhaus in Salzburg, and the Kölner Philharmonie in Cologne. She has also appeared with the Berlin Symphony, Netherlands Philharmonic, Hungarian National Philharmonic, St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, Giuseppe Verdi Orchestra of Milan, and the National Symphonic and National Philharmonic Orchestras of Buenos Aires. Ms. Fliter has performed at festivals including La Roque D'Anthéron, Prague Autumn, and the Festival Pianistico Internazionale Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, among others. She has also participated in several of "The World Pianist Series" in Tokyo with such pianists as Alfred Brendel, Maurizio Pollini, and Martha Argerich.

Ingrid Fliter made her major American orchestral debut with the Atlanta Symphony in January 2006, and two months later replaced Martha Argerich for concerts with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. She has made acclaimed recital debuts in Chicago, San Francisco, New York's Carnegie Hall, and London's Wigmore Hall. Highlights of her 2007-2008 season include debuts with the San Francisco, St. Louis, National, Toronto, Cincinnati, Dallas, Colorado, and Oregon Symphonies; a re-engagement with the Atlanta Symphony; and appearances at the Aspen Music Festival, the Mostly Mozart Festival, Cleveland's Blossom Festival, and Grant Park Music Festival in Chicago. In addition to her Cliburn Concerts debut, she will perform recitals at the Metropolitan Museum in New York, and in Detroit, Kansas City, Santa Barbara, Sarasota, and Scottsdale. In May 2008 Ms. Fliter will be heard in recital, chamber music, and concerto performances during the Gilmore International Keyboard Festival in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Internationally this season, Ingrid Fliter makes her eighth tour to Japan and tours Spain with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, debuts with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and the Gulbenkian Symphony Orchestra, and plays recitals in Barcelona and again at London's Wigmore Hall. She has also been chosen to participate in London's BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists project, a program for young musicians who are beginning to make an impact on the United Kingdom and international music scene. As part of this program, Ms. Fliter will appear with the BBC orchestras, make special studio recordings, and participate in Britain's most prominent festivals, including the Edinburgh, Aldeburgh, and City of London Festivals, as well as the Proms.

Ingrid Fliter studied with Vitalj Margulis at the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg and subsequently with Carlo Bruno in Rome and at the Accademia Pianistica "Incontri col Maestro" in Imola under the leadership of Franco Scala and Boris Petrushansky. She has also participated in master classes with Leon Fleisher, Alexander Lonquich, and Louis Lortie, and receives ongoing musical support and artistic advice from Zoltán Kocsis. Ms. Fliter recently signed to record exclusively for EMI Classics.
