Haochen Zhang receives Key to the City of Fort Worth

The Van Cliburn Foundation was thrilled and honored to have Mayor Pro Tem W.B. 'Zim' Zimmerman present Haochen Zhang with a Key to the City of Fort Worth on Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. The presentation was held after the Keyboard Circle Reception and Recital for members of the Cliburn's Keyboard Circle (patrons who donate $1,500 or more), Legacy Society, and other special guests. Haochen Zhang, the 2009 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition gold medalist, performed select pieces of Beethoven, Schumann, and Prokofiev, and then accepted the key from Mayor Pro Tem Zimmerman. Born in Shanghai and a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Haochen was 18 when he came to Fort Worth to compete in 2009 and turned 19 during the Competition. He has adopted Fort Worth as his second home, staying each visit with his Competition host family, Dr. and Mrs. David Hendricks.
