The first days in a new city are always the busiest days. I visit the hall to check the seating for the members of the jury, the jury room, and the practice rooms for the candidates, and to review the schedule, and general rules of auditions with the hosts.

Moscow under the Snow
It has been a wonderful few days in Moscow. For some of us (Andrea and myself) seeing Moscow under snow was a real pleasure. For others, the snowing part and the freezing part was NOT on their personal agenda… :) Even if I do not talk about the candidates, let's talk briefly about their repertoire. The choice of repertoire says a lot about their personality, skills, sensibility as an artist, and vision.

Moscow!
The screening auditions are being held at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in the Rachmaninov Hall. (It is next to the Tchaïkovsky Hall, the large hall, where Van Cliburn won the inaugural Tchaikovsky Competition in 1958). The Conservatory is historic and significant. If only the walls could talk--Rachmaninov, Gilels, Richter, and Lupu, among many others were part of this prestigious institution.
